Forward Together Poverty Simulation Training (Day 2)

Forward Together Poverty Simulation Training (Day 2) In-Person

The Library Development section of the State Library of North Carolina invites you to register to attend a supplemental continuing education opportunity as a part of the Forward Together: Communities Uniting Against Poverty project at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh.

The first Forward Together event brought together libraries and community partners in an immersive three-day seminar to work collaboratively to tackle the challenges of serving people living in poverty, including a participatory poverty simulation. This second continuing education opportunity will have another poverty simulation--DAY 1 and a full day of training on how to effectively facilitate a Community Action Poverty Simulation (CAPS)--DAY 2. The benefit of these is a greater understanding of the daily reality of people living in poverty, through an experiential setting, empowering attendees and facilitators to interact with leaders from their community.

Workshop Location: McKimmon Conference and Training Center

  • Directions:
    https://mckimmoncenter.ncsu.edu/mctc/directions/
  • Free visitor parking is available using the Gorman Street entrance to the McKimmon Center. There are three smaller parking lots on each side of the Center that are reserved for University employees. Visitors are asked to park in designated visitor parking spaces in order to avoid ticketing.

This registration covers facilitating a poverty simulation on day 2 only.

Travel Assistance information for those attending both days. Those living or working (whichever is closer) more than 35 miles from the McKimmon Center for Extension & Continuing Education are eligible for reimbursement at state rate for one night at a hotel, 1 breakfast, and 1 dinner. Lunch on day 2 will be provided on site.  We are not offering mileage reimbursement for this workshop.
