AI in Higher Education: Reimagining, Experimenting, & Learning
University libraries are uniquely positioned on campuses to be the “conveners” of conversations around the teaching and adoption of AI. At Creighton University, a midsized, comprehensive, Catholic, Jesuit institution, it has been easier to bring people together from across the campus due to the size and cohesion around a shared mission and values. A supportive provost empowered faculty and staff to work together as a learning community, grounded in ethics, where we are meeting the challenges of large language models and GPTs in the classroom. In November 2024, Google made a $250,000.00 grant to the University Libraries to help fund pilot projects across the campus. It has three projects moving simultaneously in an effort to understand how particular tools may or may NOT work in the environment. Our speaker shares their process and demonstrates tools they are piloting, the data/feedback collected, and teaching strategies, collaboration with multiple disciplines, and centering the library as a hub for figuring out what human/AI collaboration might look like.
