Unlocking Family Stories: Genealogy Research with SLNC & NC LIVE
Delve into the past and empower your patrons to uncover their family histories with free tools and resources from the State Library of North Carolina and NC LIVE. This webinar will highlight essential genealogy platforms like HeritageQuest, the Historic North Carolina Digital Newspaper Collection, and other digital resources that provide access to state records, military documents, and historical publications.
Special attention will be given to historic newspapers, which offer rich local context and often fill in the gaps left by traditional records. You'll explore how to navigate NC LIVE’s collection of digitized North Carolina newspapers, as well as newspapers preserved and made available through the State Library’s own digital collections and partnerships. These resources provide a treasure trove of obituaries, announcements, and community insights that are invaluable for genealogy research.
This session will also offer practical tips for helping patrons get started with their research, including search strategies, terminology, and guidance on interpreting historical records. You’ll leave with handouts, LibGuide links, and programming ideas to bring genealogy to life at your library.
