Storytherapy Lab: Connecting the dots on social emotional health and lifelong learning In-Person

Stotytherapy Lab is a professional development training that provides effective therapeutic strategies to use when facilitating programs for marginalized populations. It provides tools to listen and respond to patrons from a place of empathy. It emphasizes the evocative value of biblio-poetry therapy to foster identification, sense of belonging, connection, and personal transformation. Participants will learn strategies on how they can motivate their audience to write their response to published literature drawing on their own experiences and emotions. These strategies can be used for National Poetry Month in April or at any other time throughout the year.

Join Irania Macias of Criss Cross Mangosauce for this training which will focus on the dynamics of the interactive process between the librarian and the participant. By following the poetry therapy method, we will foster expression and creativity in the arena of emotional health. By using stories, poems and picture books that evoke poetic language we foster analogy, symbolism, condensation, displacement, and by sharing and observing the written and spoken responses, we explore self-understanding and self- expression.

A recorded version of this webinar will be available on the SLNC Academy after both live webinars have been held.
